When You are All in and Your Tournament Life is on the Line |
What are the top ten ways of sweating your all-in moment when your tournament life is on the line?
We all have had to endure the sometimes painful experience of watching the dealer reveal the final five cards of our tournament too many times. The anxiety builds up to frantic proportions as the flop is laid down, We examine it for any signs of bad news. Little voices are going off in our head saying such things as "no clubs", "no ace", " no tens", etc.The anticipation can be maddening. Then we await the Turn which can change our fate seemingly in an instant. Then the agony of the River follows where we either sink or swim. This is where we form our love hate relationship with the game. We call it brutal, unbelievable when we lose and we jump and yell "I love this game" when we win. That moment is an amazing surge of energy, frustration and adrenalin that can actually bring us to our knees in agony or make us jump up in the air without thought. If the richter scale could be internalized in our bodies, I am sure it would register a ten. This experience has been called many things such as " sweating your cards", "your tournament life on the line", or lately, the more commercial, " your Degree all-in moment".I personally experienced this " Degree all-in moment" on national TV during the day 2 Main Event Show on ESPN.It isn't much fun to watch when you are behind in the hand unless your magical card comes up on the board and changes your fate You can go from the worst hand to the best hand on the Turn in a Las Vegas second, leaving your opponent in agony as he awaits the River Card.If he drowns on the river, you swim. and suddenly poker is wonderful again.Or it can be downright painful.Words cannot describe it. It's like in the movie "Alien" when that incubating creature burts out of your stomach. It can actually seem to hurt that much. This cannot be healthy, but it is the profession that we have chosen. |

Miami John's Top Ten Reasons Why Poker Players Lose Money |
My Top Ten category this month is guaranteed to save my readers thousands of dollars and tons of anguish and frustration. Let’s face it; bankrolls are built on more than just playing skillfully. They depend on other intangibles as well. Bankrolls are best maintained by utilizing appropriate decision-making techniques such as knowing which games to play and knowing when not to play at all. Skill and finesse will always get you there, but you need to be aware of the intangibles to keep you there. Longevity is key. A good poker player will make tons of money in his lifetime, but he can earn much more by making sound gaming decisions based on intellect and common sense, not impulse. I implore you to read these next few paragraphs and see if they apply to you. We will all make mistakes. The trick is to be aware of your mistakes. Learn from them and don’t repeat them.

Top Ten Lines Gamblers Use to Borrow Money |
|
On a gorgeous sunny day during the WSOP I decided to spend the whole day relaxing. I had been running bad in the tourneys and I needed a break from the action and the frustrating experiences that one encounters while playing poker for a living. I had a room at the Rio and figured I could spend the afternoon by the pool. While laying there soaking up some rays, I thought about many of the new faces in poker. I began to reminisce about what it was like when I first arrived on the poker scene 25 years ago. I had no idea what the poker life was all about. I was in for some real eye opening experiences. The kind that that I could never have dreamed about.
